2. ‘BORN TO LOSE (THE LAST ROCK’N’ROLL MOVIE)’ - UK Premiere of the evolving film by Lech Lowalski.
The Raindance Film Festival are showing what Lech promises to be the final cut of this film, on October 21st at the Metro Cinema, Rupert Street, London W1 at 16.30 hours. Go to the Raindance Festival website for more details: 3. THE LIVE RE-MIX, GIG AND LIVE WEBCAST OF ‘BORN TO LOSE (THE LAST ROCK’N’ROLL MOVIE)’ Lech Kowlski will be ‘remixing’ the movie at a special event after the screening of the film, with special guests including WAYNE KRAMER (MC5 & Gang War) who will play live. This event is at Global Café, 15 Golden Square, London W1 from 20:00 - 24.00. With more than 500 hours of valuable material, not all of which could make it into the final 96 minute film, this promises to be a very special event. There are an extremely limited number of tickets available only from Raindance (020 7287 3833) at £6.50. Because demand for this event will far exceed supply, ‘The Born To Lose Remix’ will be livecast on the web at www.raindance.co.uk under ‘special events’. Raindance dotcom sponsors Coppernob who are hosting the webcast will also be streaming various Thunders sounds and visuals at http://special.copperclub.com including previously unseen photos, plus a previously unheard interview with Johnny where he talks about the various films he’s been in, the Stations Of The Cross and Catholicism. 4. ‘Johnny Thunders … In Cold Blood’ - THE BOOK. Johnny always kept everybody waiting for him to go onstage, so perhaps it’s apt that there’s a last-minute printers delay on the book... some jerk messed up! The so long awaited biography by Nina Antonia, updated extended with free CD etc; is now due around the 19th; by the time Nina’s signed them and we’ve picked’n’packed them, they’ll hopefully be mailed to all pre-publication customers sometime around October 26th. Of the first 200 copies that will be signed by Nina, about 50 are already booked, so you may still be able to make someone’s Christmas if you hurry. 5. ‘L.A.M.F. - the lost ’77 mixes’ Copies of the re-issue of this album enhanced with a MPEG video of ‘Chinese Rocks’ have just been shipped to distributors around the world. Order it from you local store by Cat. no. FREUD CD044E, or else from our web-shop of course (we’ll ship with the book if you order them together). Pester your favourite magazines and rock radio shows to feature it heavily! Raindance Film Festival Info October 2001 Born To Lose (The Last Rock n Roll Movie) Director Lech Kowalski 2nd UK Showing - Saturday 20th October at 22:00, 9th Raindance Film Festival, at Metro Cinema, 19 Rupert Street, London W1, Box Office 020 7734 1506 Born To Lose (The Last Rock n Roll Movie) documents the life, the myth and mysterious death of Johnny Thunders, legendary guitarist of the New York Dolls and the Heartbreakers. The film features a lot of very special archive footage, as well as interviews with Thunders' family, with some of the surviving major participants in the story including DEE DEE RAMONE (The Ramones), WALTER LURE (The Heartbreakers), SYLVAIN SYLVAIN (New York Dolls), WILLIE DEVILLE (Mink Deville) and more, as well as with those that were among the last to see Thunders alive. The film is both a valuable document and a real treat for fans. Says Lech Kowalski: 'Johnny Thunders was so successful at not being a success, that in the end he walked into a shoot-out between himself and the myth that he created.' Director Kowalski started filming Thunders in 1981, the same year that his first feature DOA was released the seminal Punk film of the implosion of the Sex Pistols as they toured America, extracts from which appeared last year in Julien Temple's The Filth and the Fury. Born To Lose has over the last year toured the major international film festivals of the world as a work-in-progress. Kowalski has recut the film after every screening. The UK premiere at this year's Raindance Film Festival will be the final cut. Raindance is the UK's largest independent film festival Pulp Fiction and Blair Witch Project are among the films that in the past have had their UK/London premieres at Raindance.
