In Cold Blood Book Cover
Johnny Thunders first gained recognition as guitarist with the legendary New York Dolls who recorded two albums in the early 1970's. He left the band in 1975 and, along with former Dolls drummer Jerry Nolan and ex-Television guitarist Richard Hell, formed The Heartbreakers. Thunders and The Heartbreakers recorded prolifically and achieved great popularity in the UK. Thunders earned a reputation for his shambling stage performances owing to an excess of drugs and alcohol. The band split and reformed numerous times recording their last live album in 1984. Thunders was found dead in mysterious circumstance in a hotel room in New Orleans at the age of 38.
Nina Antonia's book is a detailed, inside look at the life of Thunders right through his career from his early pre-Heartbreakers days to his tragic death in 1991. It also contains many anecdotes from those who knew him and loved him through the years. The book includes a complete Thunders discography and over 100 photographs, some never seen before. This book comes with a 10 track CD. 6 tracks are alternative, unreleased mixes from the recording sessions of the remarkable 1977 Johnny Thunders and The Heartbreakers album, 'LAMF.', and one outtake mix from ‘Que Sera Sera’. The two other tracks are both live, one taken from the Cherry Red live collection, 'Chinese Rocks', the other from the 'Belfast Rocks' album. The CD is completed by a very rare 10 minute interview with Johnny recorded in 1984.
